Can any of you by worrying add a moment to your life-span?Luke 12:25
It’s a very simple verse in the bible, but it’s filled with so much meaning and, believe it or not, it gives us that chance to reflect on what’s most important in life. There has probably never been a time in our lives right now that gives us plenty to worry about. The Coronavirus. The economy. Civil unrest. Job security. The health of our family and friends. Pick any one of those and it’s enough to make us worry endlessly. We can all agree that these times have been trying for everyone. There is so much instability around us that we can’t help but worry. Worrying can consume us. But that’s not what life is about.
This passage does something amazing for our well-being. It gives us the freedom to let some of the worry go and take some of the burden off our shoulders, even if just for a short time. It’s not saying we can’t or shouldn’t worry. It’s not saying we should worry about other things. It’s just saying there are more important things in life than worrying. It’s also not saying that we don’t care. It’s just helping us put perspective on the things in life that are most important like family, friends and health. By worrying less we can actually have more meaningful relationships and improve our overall health. Think about the worry in your life and ask yourself if worrying will add a single hour to your life? I bet it won’t.
